    This is your chance to express what you think is important for ISAF to consider when they decide how future Olympic Games should look. If you could start from scratch, how would you paint the picture of the Olympic Sailing Event in 2020? What is important and why?

    • How many male / female athletes?
    • What Events?
    • What Classes?
    • What Racing Format?

      I feel the important factors to consider when deciding are;

      Athletes, Coaches, Manufacturers, Administrators and anyone else that builds a life around an Olympic Class should have job security. Over-night, life changing decisions should not be allowed to happen. These decisions can destroy people’s livelihoods and dreams.

      Therefore Olympic equipment changes should happen well in advance of taking effect, at least 8 years. This way, MNA’s can design their youth programs for sailors to follow with a pathway that will exist when the athletes get there, not one that will suddenly vanish or radically transform. This will also allow existing campaigners and coaches etc to plan their lives accordingly and avoid the stress and upset that the current system is guilty of causing.

      Guaranteeing the equipment for a number of cycles will encourage more people to invest in it. This is especially true in developing nations.

      Build fleets around the world by keeping them in the game so that second hand markets can grow giving more people the chance to afford to experience the Olympic dream.

      Respect Olympic equipment for being just that, Olympic equipment. It doesn’t need to be the latest and greatest, it needs to be affordable, accessible and fair.

      Then focus on making our sport one of the highest profile sports in the world. Make it more professional so that everyone involved can make it their career, not just a hobby. Do this by selling our sport to the media by using advanced film and editing techniques, incorporating onboard cameras and GPS tracking to create the fantastic TV footage and internet coverage that the sport has the potential to stage. This will in turn create advertising opportunities and corporate sponsorship packages for events, series, teams and individuals.
